Book review

I would rate this book, Mohandas Gandhi, 4 stars because it gave a lot of information on Gandhi. It clearly described his life and struggles and had a timeline at the end. It had a perfect amount of pictures with captions. I recommend this author for biographies and would definitely pick out another one to read.

What's interesting about me

Even though I am trained as a lawyer and have made good money, I wear simple clothes and only keep basic things around me. I don't need material things to make me happy. I was a child groom and married at 13 years old. I didn't know it at the time, but I was engaged at 7 years old! So my wife and I didn't get along very well at first. I didn't die by fasting! I was murdered even though I was already really weak when I died. I've tried meat, even though it's against my religion. I felt so guilty afterwards that I promised never to touch it again.

My obstacles

One obstacle for me is that I fast very often. I believe that if I fast, it will help me become more disciplined in order to reach my goals. The people care about my health, so they get things done faster. Because I fast so much, I become weak.

Another obstacle is that lots of British rulers don't like me. They object to whatever I say. They cancelled my editorial called "Indian Opinion" for the newspaper! I want a united India, but instead they split the region into three (India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan).

My last obstacle is that I am jailed a lot. So I can't see a lot of what's happening. It's hard to get things done.

What people might call me

I have a couple of character traits that people call me. They say I'm:

1. Strong Willed - because I always believed I could unite India's people and let them have independence. Even though the Hindus and Muslims did not see eye to eye.
   
2. Dedicated - because I would never stop at a united India. I was even jailed so many times that I lost count! Until India was united, I didn't stop fighting for what I thought was right.


3. Caring - because I wanted everyone to like each other. I don't care what race or religion people are. We are all human beings and everyone is entitled to their own beliefs.
   
4. Integrity - I stayed true to my beliefs and morals. I made sure that all the actions I was taking towards India's independence were legal and honest.
   
5. Fair - I treat everyone the same way. I make sure to listen to all sides of an argument before passing judgement.

About Me

I am Mohandas "Mahatma" Gandhi. I helped lead India to independence, but I wasn't alive when India was declared independent. I strongly believe that nonviolence is the way to solve problems. I tried to show others that fighting is not the only solution in disagreements. Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela used some of my methods to gain independence for African Americans.

I was born in 1869 during the caste system. The caste system is a system that separates Indians into groups. The groups from highest to lowest are the Brahmans, the Kshatriyas, the Sudras,the Vaishyas, and the outcastes, or untouchables. The British came up with the idea while they ruled India.

I lived in a small house with my mom and dad, brothers and sisters, my father's brothers, and their families! I went to school to become a lawyer. Being a lawyer helped me to understand the ways of government and laws.
